Lower American River Conservancy Program News

On February 28, 2023, Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approved the Natural Resources Management Plan (NRMP) for the lower American River Parkway and adopted its Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR). Regional Parks will use the NRMP to prioritize, guide, manage, and monitor the Parkway’s natural resources. A 5-Year Work Plan was also developed and approved that outlines the most important NRMP actions and projects that Regional Parks and Parkway partners will advance in the coming years. In 2018, WCB’s Lower American River Conservancy Program provided funds to Regional Parks for the development and environmental review of the NRMP.

Please join the Wildlife Conservation Board for the first Advisory Committee meeting of the year for the Lower American River Conservancy Program being held Friday, April 7, 2023, in CNRA’s headquarters, first floor auditorium, in downtown Sacramento and also via Zoom. All are welcome to join. The meeting will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In May 2020, the Wildlife Conservation Board approved a grant to Sacramento State University for the development of a conceptual restoration plan for Bushy Lake located across the levee from Cal Expo in the American River Parkway. The Sac State project team is hosting an Eco-Cultural Celebration Event (PDF) on April 29 at Bushy Lake to highlight their work and findings and to introduce people to the natural wonders and culturally significant plants of this special place. This is a free event, and all are welcome to join. Click on the link above for more information.

On September 20, 2022, Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks (Regional Parks) released the Final American River Parkway Natural Resources Management Plan (NRMP) and its Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR).

The draft SEIR for the final NRMP can be found on the County’s Planning Projects Viewer. The review period for the draft SEIR ends on November 3, 2022. Comments related to the draft SEIR should be directed to the Sacramento County Environmental Coordinator and emailed to CEQA@SacCounty.gov or mailed to the Office of Planning and Environmental Review at 827 7th Street, Room 225, Sacramento, CA 95814.
