As of August 1, 2024, the Wildlife Conservation Board will be using a revised version of its General Grant Guidelines which were previously posted in January 2023. It is available on WCB’s Grant Opportunities page. These revisions are generally minor, the most substantive of which are summarized below:

• Information about requesting advance funding
• Updates for Amendments for Development Project Grants
• Clarification of differences between Acquisition and Development projects regarding Reporting and Monitoring
• Updated information about Signage and Other Acknowledgements

Future proposals submitted to the Wildlife Conservation Board must comply with these revised guidelines. For questions, please contact Shannon Lucas at Shannon.Lucas@wildlife.ca.gov.

The Preliminary Agenda (PDF) is available for the Wildlife Conservation Board meeting on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the first floor Auditorium of the Natural Resources Building, 715 P Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.

This meeting will be available via Zoom. The public is welcome.

The WCB application portal will remain closed until further notice. Grant applications received to date currently exceed available funds for almost all programs**. Once additional funds become available, WCB will notify partners here and through our email subscriber list (sign up here) that the application portal has reopened.

**Small fund balances are available in two specialty areas. If you have project proposals that meet the following description, please email scott.mcfarlin@wildlife.ca.gov.

• Regional Conservation Investment Strategies planning
• Aspen restoration in the Sierra/Cascades

The Wildlife Conservation Board approved 43 habitat conservation and restoration projects spanning 23 counties and protecting nearly 28,000 acres at its May 23 quarterly meeting.

Due to uncertainty about the State Budget and funding availability, WCB has paused its rolling grant application process for 60 days. No new pre-applications will be accepted. Please check back for updates on July 1.

Please join the Wildlife Conservation Board for the first Advisory Committee meeting of the year for the Lower American River Conservancy Program being held Thursday, April 18, 2024, in CNRA’s headquarters, first floor auditorium, in downtown Sacramento and also via Zoom. All are welcome to join. The meeting will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
